Night Gallery is excited to present a series of sculptures by New York based artist Anne Libby, titled Marrow into Moxie. This is her first solo exhibition in Los Angeles.
In genuine meanness there’s nothing left to chance. A router excerpts parts through layers of a table, surgically galvanizing conscripts. To pull vital signs from a slug of opacity is an extraction from the lowest place. Still covered in plastic, their newly formed branches flex.
These are sculptural descendants of a winged marble goddess, more ancient in their utility. From each upright section hangs a chromed Gravity Locking Ring (GLR), a decorative badge and a reminder of their provenance and purpose. Once the sinuous form of Art Nouveau’s ‘whiplash’, Seaweed is now tightly compressed into sheets of particles, just an echo of its monochromatic origins. Laminated folds intimate a life source suspended.
